RIP Aakash Shah!…

I write this a lot of sadness. Aakash Shah was a genius amongst us. To me he was one of the very few who fully understood AR Rahman’s music and the nuances therein.

He was my very good friend, although i never got a chance to meet him. He used to ping me often asking whats in store from my side. He greeted me and wished be good luck for my work in a motion picture.

I adored him and his attention to detail. I begged him to release more of his detailed works. He used to send me samples of his works, asking if it was ok. He used to ask technical questions and i found myself useless in front of him. He had so much going for him. His attention to detail was something that very few could devote.

I once promised him that once he is done with his demo CD, i will ensure it reached AR Rahman’s studio through our senior members in this group.

Aakash Shah was gifted.He is still gifted.

As a dedication, i humbly release his unfinished version of – Rehna Tu. Hear it. Feel the emotion that he infused.

This was perhaps the coolest track during its time, When Rahman dished out super chartbusters. Urvasi as such had no meaning, but it caught on and the track found its way inside every playlist. The rhythm, the violin, the lyrics everything was top notch and nothing ever came closer to this track for years.

This simple track has all the right elements in place. Good lyrics,great singing and a very simple groove. I just added few elements and bumped the feel to a rather groovy kind. The kind of stuff that say a Rishi Rich project or any of the Indo-Brit producers make, very prominent baselines combined with a nice juicy disco kick beats.

I didn’t take it to the extreme in that direction and stayed closer home to the original. I hope you like this mix!

World Classical Tamil Conference Theme by AR Rahman free download

The theme song of the World Classical Tamil Conference, written by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi and set to music by maestro A. R. Rahman.The song captures the essential aspects of various great Tamil literary works, including those from the Sangam Age.

It features 70 singers drawn from both classical and popular streams of music.

The 5.5-minute song is featured as streaming media and as a downloadable mp3 file on the website.

Filmed by Gautam Vasudev Menon, the song begins with veteran singer T.M. Soundararajan rendering the lines ‘Pirapokkum Ella Uyirkkum.’

It brings out the melodious blending of the traditional Tamil nagaswaram and tavil with the guitar and drums. To emphasise the greatness of classical Tamil, the line, ‘Semmozhiyaana Tamizh mozhiyaam,’ runs through the song. In seeking to capture the spirit of the hoary language, Mr. Karunanidhi has included references to the works of Tholkapiyar, Thiruvalluvar, Kamban and Ilango Adigal.

The World Classical Tamil Conference, to be held in Coimbatore from June 23 to June 27, will begin with the rendering of this theme song. Mr. Karunanidhi formally launched the song in Chennai on May 15.

Imagine if this had happened. MJ and Rahman on a single stage.Will it did happen for Ekam Satyam, but no one seems to have any damn record of it. But i am talking of full on blast concert creating a mother load of a mash-up to be embedded in the books for ever! Imagine such a treat for the world audience!!

It was one of those days again when i was doing parallel processing in my brain and found a great way to probably imagine how it would sound if we put 2 great tracks in a single mix. I did this mix very quickly, like in few hours,dint clean the mix in great detail because i wanted a ‘live feel’ and to achieve it, i let the sound bounce on its volume a bit.It feels raw and but thats how it should be i think.

To me it sounds awesome. AR Rahman’s track from Shivaji – The Boss mixed with Micheal Jackson’s Jam!

Update : On popular demand from Rajni fans, i have added a tamil version as well. Hope you like it!
