Dil Se – Rahman Vs Harris Jeyaraj – a proof!

Early last year one of the most watched music composer Harris jeyaraj in the tamil industry did his first Telugu film Sainikudu. The tracks were an instant sell out, however a lot of direct influences were drawn from Rahman’s masterpiece Dil Se.

Harris, having worked with Rahman earlier has the same taste that Rahman had in his earlier days. The bass notes, the groove and the layers of improvisations of a flat loop.

I have ‘studied’ the music of Sainukudu and drawn several parallels to Harris’ influence from Dil Se for his sound track of Sainikudu.

Here i present my (pain stakingly put together ) version of Rahman’s Dil Se Re mixed with the melodious track from Sainikudu called Maayeraa. Maayeraa is an extremely well programmed track by Harris ( the typical Rahman style of ‘windy’ flutes with extra spacialiser effects). Both the tracks fit into each other nice and easy!.

You will be surprised to see obvious parallels to Harris’ inspiration of the Dil Se Re bass guitar groove.

Enjoy the track and do let me know of what you all think…

yep.. another proof of how ‘intelligent’ HJ is when it comes to copying it..
there are several examples of this.
Can you possibly do something like this for ARR’s Pachai Nirame & HJ’s Gulmohar Malare..
there again, I felt HJ used the Structure of the song from ARR. Its difficult to put it in words, if you know what I mean :) )

    Thanks.

  6. Yes Harris has completely lifted from Dil Se. But i have a doubt. Harris was working with AR Rahman from 1998 to 1999. The Album Dil Se was released by mid of 1998. Is there any chance, Harris has composed the tune of Dil Se songs or assisted Rahman for Dil Se? If so, that is the reason harris has used the same tune in his movie. I am not sure about it. If am wrong, sorry guyz.

he revolutionised the music field wid roja..ilayaraja is a maestro..nobody can compared with him..same falls for rahman..i still can feel the vibe when i was a kid who danced immensely for chikkubukku..or muqqabla…and also when i was in theatre i dunno who is the music director and wat is music..but i got goosebumps for the scene where arwindsamy tries to off the fire when terrorist fires our indian flag..a background music which will make u feel the patriotic sense when u see that scene ..coz of his music…rahmans music is a slow poison..when u hear the song for a first time..u will feel wat is tis..i dont understand anything..but after repeated hearings..u will feel somthing that u cant explain…nobody can disagree wid me..i dunno wat harris did so well that rahman and ilayaraja didnt do..i will list out the points..u will understand completely..

    1)harris follows rahman..
    * pose given for photos
    * working style (night shift as rahman does)
    * rahman used to give melodies and varieties in olden days..haaris copies the same taechnique from rahman to stabilise his position..but the thing is..harris songs are becoming a hit..coz of his singers and lyricist thamarai..guys..make sure.tat if u listen very keenly there wiil be no diffrent patterns in harris music..but in ARR's case..u cant imagine wat comes up next…suddenly a flute or violin bit wiil haunt you..and forever it will haunt you..rahmans music lives eternally..maybe people wud have forgot rahman as he is too busy for olympics, hindi and international music arena…not concentrating so much in tamil..but wat he haD GIVEN is heavenly music..

    2)paartha mudhal naale–(any christians out there-coz its an christian song)-yesu azhaikinrar..unnai yesu azhaikinrar…
    3)june ponal–copied from the album blue—allrise..
    4)mundinam–faith album..
5)anjala song–base was copied from "jail song from boys movie"
i cant list out all here..check out many blogs and orkut…u will cum to know

guys i dont wana hurt or offend harris or his fan's..but we must accept the fact..if u listen the instrumental version of

harris music..u will feel.."tis song is tat song na..hey i heard it before..harris is truly saved coz of his singers and

lyricist..am not against harris..i too like kaakha kaakha and minnalae..but the credit shud goto singers n lyriscist..ok

leave harris..i will ask u one thing..if u r in andhra..wil u compare devi sri prasad wid rahman ..huh??coz devisri prasad

and manisharma are rocking more than harris jeyaraj there…will u compare like this?..u r comparing bcuz rahman and harris

are from tamilnadu..u know famous copycat deva has also given us superb songs which are a huge hit.but do u still now listen

to that..coz its not giving anything new..but rahman songs..eachtime magic like ilayaraja. .rahman is a national treasure as

bollywood people say..in tamilnadu..most of us are not hearing all genre's of music..we dont even given importance to hindi

    or malayalam or telugu songs..

  18. vinoo

(most of us) we listen only tamil…we shud break tis barrier..but malayalee and andhra people

are listening to all songs..tat is a good one..am learning keyboard now..my master says.."MUSIC IS AN ART..IT SHOULD BE

CREATEd,NOT TO BE RECREATED.."taz true…our tamil music directors should come to know tat we have grown so much..hereafter

copied tones will not work wid tamilpeople..tat time should come…let us all respect rahman and ilayaraja sir for what they

have done…as previously said this is childish..dont compare ..jus listen and respect music..stand against pirated and

copycats like vijay antony..yuvan is better compared wid harris and vijay antony(check out-rihanna's unfaithfull-unakena

    naan-kadalil vizhunden)..

Posted on 25-Jan-09 at 8:18 am | Permalink
  19. vinoo

coz yuvan has his own music style..he never imitates rahman or ilayaraja..but harris imitates

rahman..coz rahman laid a successfull path…people lemme ask u this.. will any one get GOLDENGLOBE OR OSCAR NOMINATION

without any hardwork and dedication towards music..who also has opened a music conservatory for students and teaching music

for free(u have to pay only after u become a music director)…what a great human being he is…!!..respect legends for what
they have done..and still doing..dont compare copycats ..imitators wid legends..

Being a huge lounge music fan I really wonder if either of the directors can be thought of making close to anything that sounds groovy, ambient or lounge-y.

The closest they can get to is pop

AR RAHMANS CAREER IS GOING DOWN AND DOWN!!

JUST LOOK AT HIS LATEST MOVIES

    YUVRAAJ – HORRIBLE MUSIC.

GHAJNI – A GOOD ONE BUT CANNOT MATCH WITH TAMIL GHAJNI

SLUMDOG – REALLY THERE WAS NO GOOD SONG IN THAT!

DELHI 6 – IT WAS MORE LIKE DIALOUGES THAN SONGS.

BLUE – SUCH A BIG FLOP ALBUM.

RAAVAN – OH GOD,WHAT A DISASTER, HORRIBLE FLOP SONGS.

ROBO – A GOOD ONE, 2 AND HALF OUT OF 5.

JOOTA HI SAHI – PEOPLE ASK WHEN DID IT GET RELEASED? FLOP

ROCK STAR – NONE OF THE SONGS COULD ROCK(ROCK ON WAS TOO GOOD COMPARED TO THIS MOVIE)

the guy above me….you should really get a life…seriously…all the above mentioned films had terrific tracks with the usual ARR magic in it…eg:”latika’s theme” in slumdog…i heard it a thousand times over…you should be some jobless fellow without any sense of music…he didn’t get 2 oscars for playing “twinkle twinlke little star ” on the piano…he’s a musical genius…
